Innovative GSM / GPRS modules from u-blox in mass production

Leon - GSM/GPRS module by u-bloxSwiss company u-blox, well known as the first designer and manufacturer of SuperSense, low power GPS receivers (Antaris and Antaris4 technologies), after succesful introduction of the latest GPS/Galileo products - ublox5 - extends the portfolio by innovative GSM modules. 


Just introduced "Leon" is the first member of the new family of GSM products.



Main features of this surface-mount, very small (29.5 x 18.9 x 2.84mm) GPRS unit are :

  • quad band, GSM/GPRS class 10 core
  • very simple handling (no BGA technology, no connectors)
  • low standby current ( <1.6mA for Idle Mode)
  • embedded TCP/IP, UDP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP stack
  • multiple socket & multiple IP addresses
  • simple integration with u-blox GPS, and A-GPS (including Assisted GPS client for fastest GPS Time-To-First-Fix)
  • communication with external GPS module via GSM module (using AT commands to save one UART)
  • FOAT - simple firmware update using AT commands
  • FOTA - firmware update over the air (only LEON-G200)
  • extended operating temp. range without limitations (normal operation):  -30 .. +85°C 

There are currently two modules available, LEON-G100 and LEON-G200. 





Leon is ideal solution for cost-sensitive M2M applications such as fleet management, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), Remote Monitoring Automation and Control (RMAC), surveillance and security, e-call, road pricing, asset tracking, anti theft systems and Point of Sales (PoS) terminals. Products are already in mass production.
